WHAT IS MARJAVERKKO?
MarjaVerkko is a cooperative network of local associations, clubs and businesses in Kivistö (Vantaa, Finland). As of July 2014 MarjaVerkko operates as a registered association. The network's main objective is to create and maintain social interaction and dialogue between different stakeholders, while achieving concrete results. The foundation for all MarjaVerkko’s activity is cooperation among residents and public players. MarjaVerkko is a discussion forum and an active force in developing and organizing local services. The network holds monthly open meetings.
Within the next decade Kivistö will grow from a town of about 5000 residents to a modern urban area of approximately 30 000 residents, which means that for Kivistö to maintain its unique communal atmosphere, the community's communication channels must be reorganized to accommodate the transforming environment. MarjaVerkko's priority in 2013 is to find and establish new media platforms for all public, private and third sector stakeholders, as well as for current and future residents of the area to interact and communicate with each other. This ambitious communications development project is called Kivistönportti (Gate of Kivistö) and there is a team of nine MarjaVerkko actives leading it.
